What in the HELL are people thinking? A topless bar / strip club in Cave Junction... hellO? Because what we need is ANOTHER bar.... and I read in the paper that it was going to be "discreet" WHEN is ANYTHING discreet around here? You can't even fart without people knowing..... *ugh*

Ah yes, just what we need. Unbelievable.

While the law states a business cannot be denied based on moral grounds, there are plenty of ways to make it very difficult if not impossible to open such an establishment. If the counselors approve this without a fight I will be sorely disappointed.

I certainly hope a topless bar does NOT open in or near CJ!

In case one does, here is a tactic that has worked in other communities. Assign someonr to either video or photograph patrons as they enter or leave the bar. Then publish them in the local paper!

One of the best ways to run someone out of business is --don't do business with them. We have a" head shop" across the street from the "porn shop". They have been in business for quite sometime, someone is doing business with them?? I will not be going to the topless bar, do not go to the head shop ,or the porn shop. However I do think they have the right to be.

I do agree with Mike. Under the State of Oregon constitution, we all have the right of free expression. My main concern is that children may get the idea that sex  "for sale" is OK! If they aren't allowed in to see what it is, they will use their imagination about what adults may be doing inside. Other than that, consenting adults can do what they like as long as they don't do harm to others and don't violate reesonable laws. Actually, I would rather see a topless bar than have gang violence, illegal drug sales / use or organized crime.

It's interesting that the two Larrys - one in Cave Junction and one in Grants Pass - are trying to open strip clubs, and both are meeting tremendous resistance from the city govt and local residents.

I cannot see how another bar offering entertainment can survive any better than the restaurants and taverns already existing in the Illinois Valley and struggling to make a profit.

I liked someone's suggestion for a bowling alley in the former Select Market location.  Now there is something we can all participate in, young and old, male and female, residents and tourists.  They can have a small cafe in it, a game arcade and and an internet cafe too, just like the big city alleys.  Something for everyone and each element can contribute to the owner's profit margin without causing a big controvsery.  It would be more likely to attract more customers than the strip club and can be open day and night.

What do you think?

I think you are to late, the building has been sold and it is going to be Home Valley  Bank.
I heard that the "Topless Bar" has opened at least one night and servered just juice. That was told to my husband by Fred Ball from the parts house in front of the "bar".

Just an update in case anyone from out of the area was wondering. The topless bar was either never opened or was open for an extremely short while, like a day, lol. There was too much opposition and the owner/owners gave up on it.

For those readers who live outside of the Illinois Valley/Grants Pass areas...here's the latest news about on the tale of the two Larrys and their planned strip joints. Neither one will ever happen. The Cave Junction property has been taken over by Home Town Interiors (a well-established flooring business in town). They are doing well and keeping plenty busy in the valley.

We were sorry that Abiding in the Vine was unable to raise the funds to open their Christian bookstore and family event center there. There was simply not enough support for it.

The other Larry ran into major roadblocks in Grants Pass over his near destruction of an historic building on G Street. The Hunan Garden Restaurant/Sushi Bar on the first floor is still in business, but Larry's bar project is dead in the water. Many residents of Josephine County hope that the building will be preserved and put to more appropriate use in the heart of Grants Pass' town center. Afterall, the town center is a tourist destination and a busy place for art walks and other cultural events.

A huge collection sigh of relief can be heard echoing off the mountains.....(for now).
