Title: CJ/IV interaction with GP,general communities&friends
Post by: gemgal on December 11, 2008, 10:00:30 AM
OMG I'm really confused.
We found a great  home fitting our needs but it's 4 mi out of GP instead of in the Illinois Valley! I REALLY don't know what to do. We need to move west Soon, but after a year of reading about IV I'd hoped to be part of YOUR community. NO ONE is selling what we need...it just shows how everyone loves IV ! We need acres, garden, trees and a biggish home at a lower price and nothing in your community is for sale except town stuff. It's sure been hard!
The bottom line is Do you interact with GP friends? Do GP folks hang out in IV and feel welcomed? We are almost "Takilma types" and I'd hate to end up in an area where I don't feel "at home"or would not feel "at home" hanging out in IV.
Everything is so hard moving long distance!(we are in eastern Oregon). ANY thoughts or comments would be Most appreciated!!! THANK YOU!

I have lived in the illinois valley for 40 years. I work in Grants Pass, when people find out where I live they say things like.."I didn't know anyone from the Illinois valley worked" or "I thought everyone from the Valley smoked dope and lived on food stamps." The Grants Pass daily Courier even put on their front page that the people from Cave Junction were meth addicts and drunks. I think you could be from Irac and be more welcome in Grants Pass.

One thing I really like about living in the Valley is the diversity, although I will soon be moving to just outside of the GAP, I will always be a valley boy.
Ont thing that has always been true is ", when you change the way you look at things; the things you look at will change".

You get a similar reaction if you say you are from Ashland.

I don't know exactly what you are looking for but a new IVReal Estate sign is posted at a piece of property on Dick George Road, approx 2000 block. The people who live there have only been there for a little more than a year. The entire place has been fenced as they raise alpacas. Sign says it's 11 acres and I'm pretty sure the 17 acres next to it are for sale also. (zoned wood lot resource)
We've had pretty good luck with Pat Brown there at IVRE. Give her a call, 541-592-4464.

Well, I knew from reading on Here how everyone felt about the GP newspaper!  ! They do seem like snobs but I didn't know if that applied to the 'outside the city' folks....like around the west hills? We decided if we were up there we'd do too much driving back down though! So we didn't buy that place we liked....what a tempter though!

We do have an excellent Real Estate agent (at Junction) and had a blast looking at places all day just a month ago.I just have to be calm and KNOW the "right" place will show up! My last two moves everything came together "perfect" so Patience!!!  is my mantra these days!       HAPPY NEW YEAR!  :toast:       gemgal
